Escuintla, Guatemala

In late February, 2017, four people made a trip to southern Guatemala to install the medical equipment for a new Neonatal ICU and Pediatric ICU.  This combined 36 bed unit is the largest ever in Guatemala.  It, along with the 36 Spacelabs bedside monitors that all have dual pressure capabilities, will do much to help the many young children that the hospital sees every year with traumatic head injuries.  The predominant use of motorcycles for personal transportation, and the lack of helmet use, causes many deaths and serious injuries.  Before the installation of this unit, the hospital had only 2 monitors that could monitor invasive pressure, making it impossible to monitor every baby that needed it.
